Business Studies in De La Salle helps pupils prepare for life after school. It provides opportunities for a stimulating and imaginative study of business practice. It develops a pupil’s communication skills, computer literacy skills and provides an opportunity for pupils to experience the complex world of business at first hand.
The department is based in the Business Studies Room and has the use of the ICT suite that enables the effective delivery of the AQA Business Studies curriculum. It uses a wide range of resources including textbooks, guides, case studies, magazines, computer software and the Internet.
Year 10 - Mini Enterprise
This is a 1 year introductory course for Year 10. It is a business-education partnership that delivers a practical hands-on experience to our pupils. It raises pupil’s awareness of the skills, knowledge and understanding they will need in adult life as producers, consumers, managers of household and business budgets, as employers and employees and as citizens.
Year 11 & 12 - AQA GCSE Business
This modular course is 2 years in duration taken in Year 11 and 12
Education for Employability aims to ensure that all young people develop the personal qualities, skills, knowledge, understanding and attitude which will give them a strong foundation for life long learning and work in a rapidly changing economic environment.
All Year 8 pupils partake in employability covering areas of work in the local and global economy, Personal Career Planning and Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. Pupils enhance learning with the use of visiting speakers, role-play, simulations and case studies.
The central aim of Careers Education is to help young people to acquire the skills, attitudes and abilities they will need to chart their path through life with confidence and to be effective in a variety of adult roles.
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance is offered to all pupils. A careers guidance officer works in partnership with our school and gives invaluable advice and guidance to our pupils. All Year 12 + 13 pupils participate in a Work Experience Scheme. A Career Week also takes place in March each year that involves visiting speakers, interviews, workshops and work visits.
Business visits form an integral part of the learning process in Business Studies. Business visits include;
Coca Cola, Lisburn;
Tayto Ltd, Tandragee;
Bank of Ireland, Downpatrick;
Down District Council, Downpatrick, Formula Karting, Newry
Bombardier Belfast.
